Jumel Terrace Historic District is a neighborhood located in the Washington Heights area of Manhattan, New York City. It was designated a historic district by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1992.
The district is named after the Jumel Mansion, a historic house which served as headquarters for George Washington during the Revolutionary War. The mansion was later owned by Aaron Burr and his wife, Eliza Jumel, and is now a museum open to the public.
The Jumel Terrace Historic District is known for its 19th and early 20th century row houses and townhouses, which were built in a variety of architectural styles including Federal, Greek Revival, and Italianate. It has retained much of its historic character and charm, despite undergoing development and demographic changes over the years.
The district is also home to several parks and green spaces, including Jumel Terrace Playground and Highbridge Park, which offers stunning views of the city and the Harlem River.
